A Quickie With... Jesse! by Rosalie Snaith

Live & Kicking, UK, August 1998

His singing teacher yold him to wear baggy underwear and he loves to sniff girl's hair. Boy, is Neighbours star Jesse Spencer a ker-ay-zee kid!

How you doin' Jesse?

I'm all right, but I've recently crashed my car and got whiplash. My back's gone now (ouch!) So there's absolutely no surfing. It's not bad enough to take painkillers but it's still really annoying I feel bit useless.

You're allowed to be a bit ill...

I know but I've got high standards and I'm very self critical. Otherwise you don't get anywhere!

Have you ever had a nickname?

I've got one at work at the moment. Everyone used to call me Jerry. When the Spice Girls came along they started calling me Jerry Spice which has stuck. When they came along I was like, 'They've stolen my name!'

Can you sing the Neighbours theme tune?

Course I can (lots of deep rumbles later). I'm a bass! It's cool - my whole body vibrates.

What's your fave nosh?

Nosh - is that some kind of pasta? Oh, food! Wow, I'm learning loads today! It has to be cereal in that case.

What do you look for in a girl?

I go up and I smell her hair! If I like the smell of her hair then she's cool.

What's the underwear sitch?

I was wearing jocks which are the tighter ones, but I've just switched to boxers which are a lot freer. Do you want to know the real reason? My singing teacher told me I should switch. Now, I like my undies so he had to really had to talk me into it. It can improve your singing voice so I can sing lower notes better now!

What's the secret of the universe?

The moment is now! It's like there are no ordinary moments in life.
