Uptown Girls - An Interview with Jesse Spencer by Jax LatinoReview.com, 2003
How did you get cast as Brittany’s guy?
Jesse: I was in LA for about three weeks last year on my way to New York, and then I was going to go to London ‘cause I have an English girlfriend. I’ve been living out there for about four years and this role came through so I ended up flying to New York and staying there for about four months.
It’s not specified in the movie, but how long do you spend in Brittany’s apartment?
Jesse: I think it was meant to be a few days. [Laughs] I don’t know, how long did it came across?
Weeks?
Jesse: As weeks. [Laughs] No, no, but it could have been weeks, I think it was meant to be just a couple of days.
What are they doing for all that time?
Jesse: Wow. [Laughs] Talking, ah, well I think it is sort of implied that they’re, mmm, having fun in the apartment for a few days. [More laughs, and then silence. What’s he suppose to say? Duh. Although I do ask silly questions at times, I didn’t ask this one.]
What did you two do between takes?
Jesse: We actually jammed a bit which was quite good fun, ‘cause Britt sings and I play guitar, so we did jamming.
What were the love scenes with Brittany like?
Jesse: Really hard. Yeah they’re all cut out. The stuff was cut out, like the more graphic sex scenes. They were tongue and cheek anyway and they weren’t like really serious, but they all sort of got the chop…I was really freaking out about it because in the script it said “Neal and Molly are having hard core sex,” and I was “Oh my God.” [Laughs] I’ve never done anything like that so I was freaking out, but talked to Boaz [director Boaz Yakin] about it and he was just like “Don’t worry about it.” And, I didn’t have to. It was actually really fun, it was quite good ‘cause we got on quite well. I got on quite well with Britt so, and it makes it easier with intimate stuff.
