House Star, ex-Neighbours' Jesse Spencer in Coast Battle Herald Sun, Melbourne, Australia, 26th December 2008
HOUSE star Jesse Spencer has joined a campaign to stop a development that would see the Surf Coast towns of Torquay and Jan Juc balloon in size.
Spencer, who is in Australia for Christmas, was part of a community action group that attended a meeting of the Surf Coast Shire Council on Tuesday to protest against the Spring Creek Urban Growth Framework Plan Project.
Spencer, who has made his name as Dr Robert Chase on the hit drama House, turned up at the meeting wearing a bright red T-shirt printed with the protesters' slogan, "Stop & Think".
The actor has a strong affinity with the area. His parents own a holiday home in Torquay and a brother recently moved to Jan Juc.
"I live in the (United) States now and I've seen the massive development that's happened in Orange County over the last 20 years," Spencer said.
"A lot of that landscape has been overrun with development.
"This is a huge thing for Torquay and Jan Juc, and I wonder how much this is going to open the door for more and more development.
"I think people should be aware of it and have the opportunity to have their say."
Torquay crooner Xavier Rudd has also joined the fight against the development.
Spencer, who split last year with his fiancee - and House co-star - Jennifer Morrison, is dating British singer/actor Louise Griffiths.
Griffiths is no stranger to a high-profile relationship. She was engaged to Formula One ace Jenson Button in 2003. The driver broke off the engagement in 2005, less than three months before their wedding.
She was rumoured to be dating singer Craig David and was seen in St Tropez with veteran actor Bruce Willis before dating Spencer.
Spencer and Griffiths have been an item for about four months. It is not known if she is in Melbourne with him.
